- Provides subject matter expertise in engineering that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products.
- Provides solutions for increased process selects, increased material utilization, decreased costs, and improvement to product quality by planning, organizing and implementing projects. Is a leader in obtaining fundamental process understanding and meeting the lowest cost producer objectives.
- Designs and analyses first generation / next generation products, processes and/or equipment in support of a new product / technology introduction.
- Maintains knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise in order to identify and document any intellectual property developed as part of a project
- Provides leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of short-term process and equipment issues, and higher level troubleshooting
- Provides direction to other technicians / engineers, coaches junior engineers, and provides guidance to maintenance personnel
- Provides general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals), and capable of leading projects to get to root cause of issues, and put permanent solutions in place
- Provides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new product, process, cost reduction and capacity improvement initiatives
- Recommends and implements permanent solutions to long term performance issues, and improves existing and new technologies and processes
- Develops and leads some areas of the manufacturing and/or technical roadmap. Documents material, process and/or equipment to protect and contribute to Intellectual Property improvements
- Proficient in use of statistical data analysis and DOE in process problem solving and process/product improvement
- Identifies, justifies, and implements cost reduction, capacity enhancement, capital equipment and other improvement initiatives
- Introduces new products and technologies
- Meets all Environmental, Safety and Health requirements
- Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering
- Tracks the effectiveness of projects and implemented cost reductions, using up-time, cost, productivity, and other appropriate measures
- Is a leader and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in process control/discipline, SPC, SQC, OEE, Designed Experiments, and other Performance Excellence processes (Green and Black-belt skills)
- Designs and/or specifies new equipment or modifies existing equipment to continuously improve process performance. Coordinates installation, debugging and initial operation of new equipment and systems
