The person hired for the position of Application Engineer will develop 3M high speed electrical cables, connector systems and 3M Expanded Beam Optical (EBO). Daily activities will include

Performing connector/cable assembly design, developing and conduct design reviews.
Customer engagement.
Maintaining project documentation.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Mechanical design and development of cable routing.
Participate in and lead local and global product development programs.
Support business team, visit customer and seek opportunities for both 3M high speed electrical cables, connector systems and 3M Expanded Beam Optical (EBO).

Your Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
Three (3) years of mechanical design experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Minimum three (3) years of experience using 3D CAD Software (e.g. SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Pro Engineer, AutoCAD

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

Master's degree in mechanical design experience from an accredited institution
Five (5) years of mechanical design experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Experience with high-speed electrical cable/connector designs and cable assemblies.
Understanding of signal integrity concepts
Ability to interface with suppliers and customers.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, with early morning to late evening availability for occasional global conference calls
Self-starter, highly organized, able to multitask and work independently; coupled with strong analytical ability, attention to detail will be instrumental to success
